The seemingly diverse conditions illustrated in this month’s quiz are cutaneous signs of metabolic syndrome.
Metabolic syndrome refers to the combination of abdominal obesity, hypertension, dyslipidaemia and insulin resistance.

What is the cause?
Intertrigo arises because of heat, moisture and friction. The patient illustrated suffers from hyperhidrosis; wet clothing causes chafing. Note sparing of the axillary vault.
