DermNet is a world renowned online resource all about the skin. This website (dermnetnz.org) was started in 1996 and is owned by the DermNet New Zealand Trust. Supported by the New Zealand Dermatological Society, DermNet New Zealand was launched in 1996 by Dr Amanda Oakley and a small team of New Zealand dermatologists.
Dr Oakley saw what was coming, and long before Google or Wikipedia, dermnet.org.nz was dedicated to clinical information about skin conditions and their treatment — a free and reliable online library of information for medical practitioners, students and researchers.
Dr Oakley was honoured in June 2018 by being appointed by Her Majesty The Queen as a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of her services and contribution to Dermatology. She was also awarded the Google Technology Service in the Charitable Sector's Lifetime Service Award at the New Zealand Charities Technology Awards in March 2017, and was a finalist in two categories the New Zealand Woman of Influence awards in June, 2017.
