What medications may be responsible?
Candida albicans may be induced by broad spectrum antibiotics broad spectrum antibiotics. Candidal skin infection may also be provoked by systemic steroids or by immunosuppressive drugs.
What management would you recommend?
Look for vulvovaginitis and intertrigo in areas prone to candidal infection. It is more prevalent in diabetics and those with nutritional deficiencies, particularly iron and B vitamins. Treat with topical, and if necessary, oral antifungal agents.
