What is this condition called?
Tinea cruris
What is the most likely cause?
This case was due to Epidermophyton floccosum but T rubrum is more commonly cultured.
How would you treat it?
Tinea cruris or jock itch is often associated with chronic tinea pedis. Unlike psoriasis, seborrhoeic dermatitis and irritant patterns of intertrigo, tinea cruris is asymmetrical and spreads from the groin crease or medial thigh with a circinate or patchy edge.
Topical antifungal treatment is usually sufficient although recurrence is common.
